Wu Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing Ta Fuck Wit!

Wuzzzup MVHYPE. Finished school last week and it feels GOOOD, now I have plenty of time for video games and wu-tang dub
Found this abum that came out early November, VERY SICK
"The fate of the Shaolin Temple was sealed by its leaders' refusal to open its doors to newcomers seeking to join their following. Had it not been for the monks' initial anti-proselytization policy; had they accepted all those who sought entrance, the Temple may never have been destroyed. This important lesson, often recounted by The RZA, is a perfect analogy for the Wu-Tang Meets the Indie Culture series. Released in 2005, volume one introduced a lineup of indie/underground emcees whose form and style were so compatible with Wu-Tang that it made for one of the year's most thorough (and thoroughly enjoyable) albums. In 2009, a new chamber of cross-breeding music has been opened, this time introducing a whole new genre/style to the Wu-Tang sound: Enter the Dubstep.
...
Unlike the first entry in the Indie Culture series, Enter the Dubstep does not feature any new vocals. The album is a hodgepodge of verses and choruses from previously-released Wu-Tang and Wu-Tang affiliate albums like Raekwon and Icewater's Polluted Water, Lord Jamar's The 5% Album, Wisemen's Wisemen Approaching, GZA's Pro Tools, U-God's Dopium and more (including volume one of the series). While it would have been nice to hear some new lyrics - especially by the main members of the Clan - it works out better this way since this collection is intended to primarily highlight the producers; as such, it's gainful to compare and contrast the originals to the remixes."

Definitely have enjoyed this album, banger for the car, recommend getting at least a couple of the tracks.

yooo so this past weekend i saw Fat Freddy's Drop two nights in a row. saw them on thursday in sf and drove down to la the next night to catch them again. let me just say, WOW. it was amazing! i haven't seen that quality band talent in a while and it was very refreshing. their sound is hard to describe but i would say its like reggae dub jazz soul with alittle twinge of electronic. The band is made up of 7 players being: a guitarist, keyboard/ synth, drums pad/ dj, vocalist, a trombone player, trumpet player, and a saxiphonist. the dynamic in the band was simply amazing. the instrument section would improvise and created this live experience that their cds can't portray. hahah their trombone player is the best, not only is he hella talented he get so into it. they are a stellar group and you all should check them out.

oh yah! the digital mystiks remixed a song of Fat Freddy's Drop and here it is. sadly no download only youtube streamin. sorry

A caller gettin laid tonight. Swisher rolled tight, gotta sprayed by Ike"..... thrown in there somewhere but this track is produced real well. I like the sounds and he has good depth.

SB WEST BEACH MUSIC FESTIVAL

p.s. i wanted to share my exciting endeavor this weekend. playing my first music festival!

My name is at the bottom left lol. Not quite the electronic music oriented festival, but it's the biggest music festival in SB. Definitely some good acts. Stoked to be on a flyer with Bassnectar.
So if anyone wants to come support this Sunday, all ages are welcome

sup my boys!
feels good to make my first post on here...summer has been a busy one in SB. But you guys have really started something inspiring here...and I'm gonna attempt to keep up with it cauz we deserve something like this. I still have to go through all these posts you guys have put up but here's what I wanna share:

So I went to Costa Rica in August, visited my family there. The second night I was there my cousins took my to this place called the Jazz Cafe, turns out there was a dubstep dj and a live dnb band! didnt think I'd come across any dub in cr, but looks like it was just fate.
the dj called himself ctoph, pretty authentic guy. from oregon, moved out to cr to work off his own portion of a friend's farm. now just lives a very honest and cheap life in cr, dj's by night, and works on his farm by day. must have a bomb internet connection lol. he directed me to grindthieves.com
he h
as a few mixes up on the site, definitely check em out

the live dnb band was Huba and Silica. three members: a drummer on some v-drums, an mc, and a guy doing sequencing and mastering on a computer. pretty sick to see. randomly i had bought their CD earlier that day, didn't even think i'd run into them that night.
I believe the mc, Ras Huba, was on some big dnb projects in the 90's...something i heard...

here's one track off there album: remember this.
gonna have to support cr music to get more lol. or just hang out with me

So that was a sick trip. On a more local note, is anyone going to nocturnal? i think i'm gonna go and i need some dub brothers.
also wanted to share this track: http://www.zshare.net/audio/65669327400144cf/
i'm betting it will be played at nocturnal. hit me if any of you are around

"So We're Really Going With 'Glo-Fi'?"

Aside from seconding the excellent time we had in The City at 1015 Folsom last night, I'd like to pass on a few tracks by a Spanish house DJ John Talabot. Apparently he's the pioneer of the new "Glo-House" subgenre, a distinction which seems overly departmentalized to me (isn't House music glowy already?). But nonetheless, it's pretty good stuff. Anyone who had any interest in my earlier post on The Field will most likely enjoy this as well. Here's his latest, twangy bass and chirpy guitars in full force:

John Talabot - Sunshine (Original Mix)

New track by Delorean, "Seasun," follows suit.

Delorean - Seasun

I would love to dance to this stuff live.

so last night at 1015 was d-e-a-lightful and i wish i could have recorded mimosa and antennae's sets however i'll take what i can find

Last Weekend July 22-25

July 22 - Starkey @ The Tube

Fucking hella sick... Starkey throws down everytime. BIG BIG BIG set very very VERY small venue. The Tube is only open like once or twice and week and is very small but everyone in there usually knows each other and is very chill. Gemmy showed up with his lady friend and Joker with his fiance. Both of them just chillin in the club checking out some good beats. Chatted with both of them a little bit very nice guys very genuine. A few of the regulars there is Superisk http://www.myspace.com/superiskninthentity who is a sick who spun after Starkey. And the owner of http://www.donutsthestore.co.uk/ a sick ass clothing company located in Bristol. Mostly sell T's check it Pat. Very Sick night.

July 23 - Corsica Studios

Best show of them all. Got there and Chef was on the decks spinning vinyl. Sound system was very fucking heavy. Probably a room maybe a little bigger than the size of Merced house's living room with a massive BASS system. There was probably only 40-50 people in there at one time. After 1 probably only 20. The venue really didn't fill out very much which I really enjoyed. Kristen and Sam counted one time and there was only 7 girls. Pretty rediculous.

Mala set was fucking sick. Brought the vinyl out and was on his mixing very very good stuff from him. All sorts of tracks I had never heard and probably wont hear again for a while. Silkie's set was fucking banging. Silkie is a boss. Dropped new shit and new Mizz Beats tracks that were fucking awesome too. They are getting better and better and the production value and melodies they bring to the table is fucking amazing. Quest's set was fucking great. I had never seen him before he had a sound semi-close to Silkie's with his own fresh take on dub. He was dropping all sorts of tracks I have never heard and was definitely a huge addition to this party. After Quests set all awesomeness broke loose and Sgt. Pokes announced it was Mala's birthday. Mala played a sick little Birthday set and was having fun getting drunk and playing sick beats. Then Jay Five stepped up as well as Quest and Silkie. It basically turned into Mala b2b Quest b2b Silkie b2b Jay Five. FUCKING sick. There was no way we were leaving this party till they kicked us out. Check out some photos.

Jay Five - Silkie - some random guy - Quest

Sgt. Pokes

Gangstas

July 24 - Fabric

Fabric was sick. A bit hellish getting there because we missed the train. But it was a very sick night. Fabric has a lot of youngsters and people there to be at the scene, but we loved the music. Starkey was fucking going off. Got a really sick video than I plan on uploading to youtube very soon. Drop The Lime was Kristen and Sams favorite he was dropping some real hard tracks and seemed to have a heavy techno influence so it was a bit faster and very dance-able tracks. We also the legend Goldie who was throwing down in the ever so heavy DnB room. Very sick evening. Fabric is always a very late night.

Starkey - Drop the Lime gettin' down

REWWWWWWINDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

July 25 - El-B and Joker @ Deadly Rhythm

This was pimpin pimpin. Except that it was in like a bar turned nightclub. The room was not set up very well for sound and the system was pretty small. El-B is like the King of Garage and was really sick. He started with garage and the MC changed it with "Ok ya'll ready to hear some real dubsteppp?" and he started playing some really sick dubstep tracks getting the party started. Fucking good to finally see him live because he is a godfather of dubstep. Joker came on a little late sporting purple of course. He set up his shit and was off. He had a really awesome mixing style to compliment his really awesome set of sounds. He mixed really quickly but brought in the heart of the track melodically and intelligently. He has some real good DJ skills to match his production skills. He was playing all sorts of really good tracks and some new ones that I recorded that I have been searching for like crazy. Got some cool videos to upload will put those on youtube soon as well. In this pic El-B is on the left and Joker in purps.

Greetings all. Been enjoying the new material by Javelin. It's short, sweet, sometimes even a little too quick to the point--but it's pretty solid stuff. Check it, the track "Vibrationz" has been getting the most attention:

Also, if you guys haven't heard about Major Lazer you may want to give it a listen. It's Diplo and Switch producing clubby tracks with a clear reggae and hip-hop influence. Not all of it is exactly my style, but I am pretty down with the track "Keep It Goin' Louder." Track here:

8 Bit Daft Punk Album B-B-B-B-Blowin it up.

So Bellarmine/Chapman alumnus and friend of mine Mike Horton AKA EvilWezil had his hand in this 8-bit Daft punk album that is apparently being listened to by Thomas and Guy-Manuel themselves. Chiptune music produced using nothing but gameboys and NESs. Download the album and tracks here.

Here is EvilWezil's contribution: Veridis Quo.

Bassnectar Unofficial Videos

So someone has been making unofficial bassnectar videos and they are fucking SICK! Check it:

I don't know if anyone uses reddit.com (similar to digg), but they have a dubstep section that is blowin up quite a bit of good stuff lately, and an electronic music section that is full of tracks and just interesting electronic music oriented articles videos and the like. Check 'em out.

Ode to Joy

This guy has apparently been making some waves over in London with some unconventional dubstep. He's cheekily known as Joy Orbison, and apparently his track "Hyph Mngo" has been blowing it up. I dig it.

White Noise

This is a terrific idea. I hope this forces me back into the groove of habitually seeking out new music, my focus the last year or so has dwindled some.

As a few of you know, I've made no secret of my unabashed love for The Field. For my money he (Axl Willner) is about the best in the minimal electronic game these days. From Here We Go Sublime was the most impressive album of 2007 in any genre and his recent release Yesterday & Today was a pretty spot-on follow up. The strategy is very "less is more," and although you could throw it in with the ambient genre, very few others can hold the energy so high for as long as he does--and he does it while abandoning traditional methods of crescendo and beat-dropping. His remix of The Korgis' "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime" is a bit like watching a swan do a triple backflip on a flaming motorcycle in slow motion. Link here:

http://hypem.com/track/832078/The+Field+-+The+Field+Everybodys+Got+To+Learn+Sometime

I caught him on tour with The Juan Maclean (also excellent) recently and it was one of the more memorable shows I've ever seen. He also recently remixed one of Gui Boratto's better tracks, "Hera." I'll defer to the other Hype for the links to that track and one of the ones off his new album:

Back with more soon.
